In a shocking development, Vance Boetler, accused of political assassination in Minnesota, penned a bizarre letter to the FBI, alleging that Governor Tim Walz instructed him to assassinate Senator Amy Klobuchar.
This outlandish claim, as reported by The Minnesota Star Tribune, suggests a convoluted conspiracy wherein Walz would supposedly replace Klobuchar in the Senate. The letter, described as largely incoherent, offers a glimpse into Boetler's troubled psyche, according to sources familiar with its contents.
As reported by The New York Post, neither Governor Walz nor Senator Klobuchar directly addressed the allegations within the letter. However, both issued statements concerning the violent incidents. "Governor Walz is grateful to law enforcement who apprehended the shooter, and hes grateful to the prosecutors who will ensure justice is swiftly served," stated Walz's spokesperson, Teddy Tschann, to the Star Tribune.
Meanwhile, Klobuchar expressed her relief, saying, "Boetler is a very dangerous man and I am deeply grateful that law enforcement got him behind bars before he killed other people."
Boetler stands accused of a heinous crime spree, including the murder of Minnesota House Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the shooting of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. The attacks occurred on June 14, with Boetler reportedly disguised in a latex mask and police uniform.
Following the incident, investigators engaged in a shootout with Boetler at Hortman's residence, during which he fled, leaving behind a "manifesto" listing 70 politicians as targets, including Governor Walz, who had previously appointed Boetler to a statewide board.
The ensuing manhunt, described as the largest in Minnesota's history, culminated in Boetler's capture in a wooded area of Sibley County. SWAT teams, acting on a tip from a local resident who spotted Boetler on a trail camera, successfully apprehended the fugitive.
Boetler now faces a litany of charges, including federal murder and stalking, alongside state charges. Should he be convicted, the death penalty looms as a potential outcome.
