Two Chicago teenagers have been charged after allegedly causing a fatal car crash that ended with a six-month-old child dying.
The two teenagers allegedly stole the car, went on a joyride, and crashed into another vehicle that had the six-month-old in it. Worse yet, the Post Millennial reports that the vehicle was stolen.
WGN9 reports that the Chicago Police stated that the accused are a 17-year-old male and a 14-year-old male. However, that same report says that they will only be facing misdemeanor charges for the situation that they put themselves in.
The local news reported that the teens were charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle in connection to the theft of the car. It is possible that they could face upgraded charges at the end of the day.
The Post Millennial reports that authorities say the crash resulted in multiple hospitalizations and the death of the six-month-old child.
The childs mother and his two sisters remain in the hospital now, but they are all expected to recover fully. Chicago Police say a stolen Hyundai was traveling westbound on the 4400 block of West Washington when it hit a pickup truck around 5 PM on Sunday.
The Post Millennial reports that soft-on-crime policies from leadership in the city have caused a vast increase in crime over the last few years. In the last year, violent crime has risen 37 percent, including theft, burglary, and robbery. There has also been a 100 percent increase in fatal shootings between 2020 and 2021 in Chicago, according to police statistics.
The incoming Mayor, Brandon Johnson, a candidate endorsed by Bernie Sanders, recently blamed the rise in crime on businesses in the city not paying taxes instead of on the soft-on-crime policies he and other progressives have pushed over the years. Failed progressive policies are something that Johnson still needs to address when talking about how to change course on rising crime throughout the city.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for the funeral costs of the six-month-old child victim of the fatal crash. It is devastating and horrific to ask the public to pay for it.
