In a fervent outburst on social media, Representative Norma Torres (D-CA) demanded the removal of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from Los Angeles, asserting that their departure would restore order.
"ICE get the fuck out of L.A. so that order can be restored," she declared on her TikTok account, ntorres35. The Guatemalan-born lawmaker, who arrived in the United States as an illegal migrant at the age of five in 1970, expressed her frustration during a flight, as President Trump's administration intensified efforts to detain illegal migrants amid widespread left-wing unrest and violence.
This comes at a time when Congress is deliberating over a substantial bill aimed at curbing further illegal immigration.
As reported by Breitbart, Torres accused ICE of exacerbating chaos and violence, suggesting that their actions served the interests of the "TACO occupying the White House." She further alleged that ICE employed a "chemical agent" against Members of Congress, claiming, "I'm not sure if ICE here at the building where we are, at the side door, has deployed some kind of chemical agent because suddenly we are all [coughs] coughing and unable, um, having a very tough time of breathing." Despite her assertions, video footage showed no visible signs of respiratory distress among others present.
Torres, who has consistently advocated for increased migration, has been criticized by organizations such as NumbersUSA, which supports reduced immigration, earning her an F- rating. Her stance reflects a broader debate over the role of federal enforcement in managing immigration and maintaining public order. In a subsequent post, she argued against the deployment of military forces to cities, stating, "We need calmnot troops. Sending thousands of soldiers into a city that didnt ask for them will only escalate tensions. We need solutions, not showdowns."
