This YouTube Star Plans To Take On Miami Mayor In 2024 Election...

Alexander Otaola is a YouTube star with sometimes controversial views who wants to be the next Mayor of Miami.

Otaola has political views that focus on Cuba, conservative issues, and the ever-present threat of Communism striking within the United States. He recently filed paperwork to take on Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava in the 2024 election.

The Miami Herald reported that Otaola, the host of the YouTube show Hola Ota-Ola! filed his candidacy papers on Tuesday in the non-partisan election for Mayor of Miami. While the election is technically non-partisan, voters are educated enough to understand which parties the candidates would likely fall into if they deem this election partisan. That is why the current Mayor is viewed as a Democrat, and Otaola is viewed as a Republican.

Otaola gained national attention in 2020 when he began to promote the candidacy of then-President Donald Trump on his Spanish-language show. He worked hard to deliver more young Cuban-American voters to Trump and the Republican Party. The efforts might have somewhat paid off, as Joe Biden only carried Miami-Dade County by seven percentage points. That was a much narrower margin than Democrats are accustomed to winning by in Miami-Dade. It also helped Trump score an easy win in Florida as a whole.

Otaola also appeared in blackface on his show, which Mother Jones once described as Jerry Springer, Judge Judy, Entertainment Tonight, and Breitbart. However, Otaola has managed to garner 200,000 followers on his channel. The Miami-Herald attempted to reach out to Otaola for comment, but he had yet to be reached in time for the publication of their story. His candidacy papers list his residence as a four-bedroom home outside of Homestead. According to public records, his media company purchased the house in 2020 for around $800,000.

Otaola wants to stay focused on the issues and generate as much popularity as possible by leveraging his YouTube audience. He spoke about his intention to run for Mayor with his audience last summer. However, he did not mention the current Mayor by name.

We are going to get the communists out of Miami, said Otaola in Spanish on his show. He followed this up with:

If I win I will do everything, absolutely everything, so that not a single dollar comes out of this city, this county, to feed the Cuban dictatorship.

This makes Otaola the third person to file to run for the office of Mayor of Miami for the 2024 election.
