Then, as the story unraveled, it turned out that the documents allegedly were released on a Discord server for Minecraft by someone who wanted to one-up teenagers. Now, a man is behind bars.
The 21-year-old Air National Guardsmen is going to remain behind bars. Reuters reports, Jack Douglas Teixeira of North Dighton, Massachusetts, was due to appear in federal court in Boston on Wednesday to determine whether he would remain jailed pending trial after federal prosecutors told U.S. Magistrate Judge David Hennessy they intended to seek detention.
Two weeks before this, Teixeiras lawyers filed a motion to delay the hearing. According to the public defenders, they required additional time to address issues related to the governments request for detention. So far, we havent seen Teixeira challenge the governments request.
He did show up in court and requested to waive his right to a preliminary hearing. A judge granted the request.
FBI agents arrested the man on Thursday concerning the incident. The arrest took place at his Massachusetts home. Fox has the details on his security clearance. According to Fox News, Teixeira, who joined the Air National Guard in September 2019, held the highest level security clearance granted by the federal government for top-secret information, according to an internal Department of Defense email reviewed by Fox News.
The document leak started months ago but gained national attention when another person shared screenshots of the documents in a public forum. The documents contained information regarding the situation in Ukraine, spying on the Middle East, and much more.
