The oldest living person passed away on Tuesday.

The New York Post reports that 118-year-old French nun Sister Andre was known as the oldest living person on Earth since April 2022 before her passing earlier this week.

She was born in Lucile Randon on Feb. 11, 1904. She served as a teacher that looked after children during WWII. She spent an entire life serving people. Sister Andre worked in an orphanage for over three decades and cared for the elderly in a French hospital. This was all before she became a Catholic nun in 1944. That was the same year President Theodore Roosevelt was first elected to office.

The New York Post reports that even though Sister Andre contracted COVID in 2021, she could easily overcome that challenge. After all, this person lived through the Spanish flu in 1918, so she was hardly bothered by this latest virus.

When she contracted COVID, she told the media that she wasnt afraid to die if that was her fate. However, that is not what happened to her at the time. She spoke with the French TV station BFM and stated the following:

No, I wasnt scared because I wasnt scared to die Im happy to be with you, but I would wish to be somewhere else join my big brother and my grandfather and my grandmother.

She was named the oldest living person after Kane Tanaka in Japan died at the age of 119.

Sister Andre often enjoyed eating chocolates and other sweets, even in her old age. She felt this guilty pleasure was something she could safely enjoy and still take care of her body. She also enjoyed a glass of wine daily with a staff member at her home. She even joked that this might be her secret to living such a long life.

CNN reported that the nuns spokesperson reported that her death happened at approximately 2 am local time in France. Spokesperson David Tavella reported the following:

There is great sadness, but she wanted it to happen. She desired to join her beloved brother. For her, it is freedom.

The mayor of Toulon, Hubert Falco, released many tweets about the passing of the nun. He talked about the love and wisdom that she passed on.

Before passing, she spent more than ten years at Sainte Catherine Labour nursing home.
