Getting a word out edge-wise without interruption proved challenging for Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis at a Friday GOP fundraiser in New Hampshire.
Fox News reports that about two minutes into his speech, Governor DeSantis was interrupted by two female protesters who had managed to make their way to the podium, even though everyone had to pass through a security sweep. The two women were quickly removed by security.
The report says the two women appeared to chant Jews against DeSantis. In response to their chant, DeSantis took the high road and highlighted the comments. With the audience cheering and applauding, he said, Youve got to have a little spice in the speech. Right. I mean, youve gotta have a little fun. After lightening the mood with those comments, he returned to his prepared remarks.
Chris Ager told Fox News earlier in the day on Friday that the annual fundraising dinner would bring in more than $250,000, which Ager said is a record. He also noted that we had to close ticket sales earlier this week at 520 people.
The New Hampshire trip was the first in DeSantis cycle of visits. The Governor has already made stops in Iowa and Nevada this year. Next week, he plans to visit South Carolina.
During his speech at the fundraiser, DeSantis didnt mention the presidential campaign or his intention to run. He said, I have only begun to fight.
Governor DeSantis has seen an increase among conservatives across the U.S. over the past three years. The conservative Governor has stood firm against pandemic restrictions, media, teachers unions, and corporations, placing him in good stead in the Sunshine State as a culture warrior.
We lead not merely with words but with deeds. during the speech, DeSantis said, Were leading the nation on a whole host of issues. Were number one in the country...for net-in migration... were number one in new business formations, number one in tourism. Were number one in economic freedom... were number one in education freedom. Were number one in parental involvement in education.
He received a loud response of approval when he talked about his controversial push to ban instruction in the classroom on gender identity and sexual orientation in Florida. He asked, is wrong to tell a second-grader that they were born in the wrong body.
DeSantis is expected to launch a presidential campaign sometime next month at the end of Floridas legislative session.
