Mike Lindell, the founder and CEO of MyPillow, has announced his contemplation of entering the political arena by running for governor in Minnesota's 2026 election.
Lindell, a resident of the state, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current Democratic Governor, Tim Walz, asserting that "no one wants" Walz to continue in office. Walz, who has served two terms, is eligible for reelection, yet his name has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race.
According to the Daily Caller, Lindell stated, "I live here in Minnesota. Everywhere I go, no one wants Tim Walz. They dont." He further criticized Walz by saying, "Its like even if you are a Democrat and you think he [Walz] is a good Democrat governor, they dont even like him for what they did, these nonsensical things he did."
Lindell, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, has been a familiar face at Trump campaign rallies and previously considered gubernatorial bids in 2018 and 2022, encouraged by Trump himself. He remarked on his potential candidacy, "Im looking at every single thing, option and doing my due diligence."
Governor Walz has faced criticism for his progressive policies, such as the controversial 2023 legislation requiring schools to provide tampons in both girls' and boys' restrooms. This move earned him the moniker "Tampon Tim" from President Trump and others.
Despite these challenges, Walz remains a prominent figure in Democratic circles, having been chosen by former Vice President Kamala Harris as her running mate in their unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign. In a March interview with The New Yorker, Walz expressed openness to a 2028 presidential bid, contingent on the right circumstances and his "skill set."
The political landscape for the 2026 Minnesota gubernatorial race is already taking shape, with potential candidates including former Republican nominee Scott Jensen, former gubernatorial candidate Kendall Qualls, former attorney general candidate Jim Schultz, and attorney Chris Madel. The election is scheduled for November 3, 2026.
