In a recent interview, Vice President JD Vance humorously criticized his predecessor, Kamala Harris, for her approach to the vice presidency.
He suggested that her often confusing responses to questions might have been the result of consuming "four shots of vodka before every meeting." This comment, made in jest, was part of a broader discussion about the differences in their respective approaches to the role of Vice President.
According to Breitbart, the conversation took place during a radio interview with host Vince Coglianese. Vance was asked how he was handling the vice presidency differently than Harris. His response was both humorous and pointed, as he suggested that Harris's often perplexing answers to questions might have been alcohol-induced. "I think that I would need the help of a lot of alcohol to answer a question the way that Kamala Harris answered questions," Vance quipped.
Vance also speculated on the relationship between Harris and former President Joe Biden, suggesting a lack of trust between the two. He stated, "My sense is, and this is a little bit of guesswork, obviously, I dont talk to Kamala Harris or Joe Biden very often, but my sense is that there wasnt a level of trust between Biden and Harris and so, you know, she was just less empowered to do her job."
In contrast, Vance described a strong bond of trust with President Donald Trump, which he believes has empowered him in his role as Vice President. He explained, "Im in a situation where the President trusts me, where if he asked me to do something, he believes its going to happen. And obviously well talk about it and check in."
Vance emphasized that his role is to support the President's vision and that he reminds himself daily that the American people elected Donald J. Trump to do a job. "For him to do that job successfully, the people around him, starting at the top, with the Vice President, have to do their jobs," he stated.
Discussing the unique nature of the vice presidency, Vance acknowledged that the position does not hold any "formal power." He sees his role as helping the President achieve his goals, which has made him a "generalist" in his duties. "I think the President and I work on everything, and obviously I take direction from his leadership, but I try to implement the agenda as well as I can," he explained.
Vance also took a moment to reflect on Harris's first video message following her loss to Trump. He noted that she appeared disheveled and questioned why her staff would have allowed the video to be released. In the video, Harris encouraged her supporters, saying, "You have the same power that you did before November 5, and you have the same purpose that you did. And you have the same ability to engage and inspire. So dont ever let anybody or any circumstance take your power from you."
Vance's comments offer a glimpse into the contrasting styles and approaches of the current and former vice presidents. His remarks underscore his commitment to supporting President Trump's vision and his belief in the importance of trust and empowerment in the role of Vice President.
