Canadian entrepreneur and television personality Kevin O'Leary, renowned for his role on Shark Tank, has expressed his intention to persuade President-elect Donald Trump to consider a merger between the United States and Canada.
O'Leary's proposal, which he shared during a recent appearance on Fox Business, includes the elimination of the border separating the two nations and the creation of a shared currency and passport system.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, O'Leary highlighted the potential benefits of such a union, stating, "Theres 41 million Canadians, basically the population of California sitting on the worlds largest amounts of all resources, including the most important energy and water." He further noted that this idea has sparked interest among Canadians, suggesting that it could mark the inception of a powerful economic alliance.
O'Leary elaborated on his vision, stating, "Think about the power of combining the two economies, erasing the border between Canada and the United States and putting all that resource up to the northern borders where China and Russia are knocking on the door. So secure that give a common currency, figure out taxes across the board, get everything trading both ways, create a new, almost EU like passport.
The Canadian businessman, affectionately known as "Mr. Wonderful," expressed his lack of confidence in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's ability to negotiate such a deal. He stated, I like this idea and at least half of Canadians are interested. The problem is the governments collapsing Canada right now. Nobody wants Trudeau to negotiate this deal. I dont want him doing it for me. So Im going to go to Mar a Lago. Ill start the narrative. The 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal.
Earlier this month, Trump himself suggested that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!
While the idea of a U.S.-Canada merger may seem radical to some, it's clear that the concept has garnered attention from influential figures on both sides of the border. Whether this idea will gain traction in the political sphere remains to be seen.
