The mainstream media has been quick to dismiss any questions surrounding President Joe Biden's cognitive health, following a revealing report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in June that detailed the President's alleged decline.
According to the WSJ, White House aides and advisers have been managing Biden's responsibilities as his mental health reportedly deteriorates. Some cabinet officials have disclosed that they have been meeting with advisers rather than the President himself. This information came to light six months after the WSJ published a damning piece on June 5 titled, "Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs Of Slipping," which compiled numerous accounts expressing concern over the President's age and cognitive abilities from a variety of sources.
In the wake of the June report, many mainstream media figures lambasted those who dared to highlight the alleged signs of Biden's deteriorating mental health, seeking to discredit the reports.
MSNBC's "Morning Joe" panelists were among those who expressed outrage over the WSJ's suggestion that Biden might be in decline. During a June 5 segment, they argued that Biden's slower pace and speech were merely signs of aging.
Panelist Mike Barnicle defended the President, stating, This piece is so tilted, so off the mark, is he 81 years old? Yes. Is he a little slower in terms of his reactions to some things? Probably. That I dont know, we dont know. What I do know, Richard, and youve talked to people Im sure who have been with him in national security meetings, Ive been with people who have been with him in the situation room where he literally goes around the globe in the situation and points out the weaknesses and the strengths of the United States relationships with every country that hes talking about with no notes, with no notes.
Co-host Joe Scarborough dismissed concerns raised by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was quoted in the article stating that the President is not the same person and relies heavily on notes. Scarborough claimed that McCarthy privately considered the President to be mentally sharp and very smart.
