In a recent Christmas Eve message, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made a bold prediction about the political landscape of the United States.
She expressed her belief that the year 2024 would mark the end of what she referred to as "Democrat communist control."
"Merry Christmas Eve everyone!!" Greene announced on her official government X account. "It's the last Christmas under Democrat Communist control. Freedom is coming!" she declared, hinting at a shift in political power.
However, according to Raw Story, this claim has been countered by Jan-Werner Mller, a professor at Princeton University. He recently clarified that Democrats are not communists, despite the Republican Party's efforts to label them as such. This is a common tactic used to discredit the party.
"The one time in recent history that the U.S. clearly resembled the Soviet Union empty shelves and long lines outside shops was under Trump; to be sure, other countries also had supply chain problems during Covid-19, but the former president proved exceptionally irresponsible and incompetent," Mller wrote in a column for The Guardian.
Mller further argued that many right-wingers struggle to define the terms they use to incite fear and hatred. "The Biden administration has at least tried to change course on monopoly power, under the leadership of Lina Khan, chair of the Federal Trade Commission, whose career started with an attack on the mistaken pro-monopoly theory," he added.
While some conservatives, like Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, are seen as defenders of the common man, Mller suggests they have contorted their positions to justify questionable practices. This, he implies, is a far cry from the freedom and individual liberty that Rep. Greene promises is on the horizon.
