In a shocking incident that has left New York City reeling, a Guatemalan man, previously deported by the Trump Administration, has been accused of setting a woman ablaze on a subway train.
The suspect, identified as Sebastian Zapeta, is an illegal immigrant who had been expelled from the U.S. in June 2018, only to reenter the country unlawfully at an undisclosed time and location.
According to Gateway Pundit, Zapeta first crossed into the U.S. in Arizona on June 1, 2018, and was deported a mere six days later. Despite this, he managed to reenter the country, a fact that has sparked outrage among conservative circles who argue that such incidents underscore the need for stricter immigration policies.
The horrifying attack took place on a stationary F train at Brooklyns Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station. The victim, a woman who seemed to be asleep, was approached by the suspect who then set her clothing on fire using a lighter. "Liquor bottles were laying around the victim, though it wasnt clear if they played any part in the blaze," the report stated.
The suspect's actions following the attack have further shocked the public. Surveillance footage reveals that he remained at the station, sitting nonchalantly on a nearby bench. As the flames engulfed the victim, the suspect was seen fanning the fire, exacerbating the situation.
Adding to the public's distress, a transit police officer was seen passing by the burning woman. The officer appeared to be speaking on a radio but continued down the platform without offering immediate assistance or attempting to apprehend the perpetrator. This incident has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of current immigration policies and the need for heightened vigilance in public spaces.
