Chicago, under the leadership of Mayor Brandon Johnson (D), witnessed a grim milestone over the weekend as the city's murder count for 2024 surpassed 550.
The weekend's violence resulted in at least three fatalities, according to local reports.
As reported by Breitbart, ABC 7 highlighted that the weekend was marred by at least ten shootings, three of which proved fatal. The first deadly incident took place early Saturday in a residence on the 1700-block of E. 67th Street. A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times shortly after 12:30 a.m. and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The violence continued unabated as another man was shot in the stomach at 4:32 a.m. in the 8400-block of Kingston Avenue. Despite being transported to a hospital, the victim did not survive. On Sunday morning, a 48-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded in an alley on the 8000-block of South Escanaba Avenue. He was later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The Chicago Sun-Times' murder database confirms this grim tally, indicating that these recent killings have pushed the city's murder count to 551 for the year 2024.
