In a controversial move, a report against former Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has been prematurely leaked to the public.
The report, which is scheduled for official release later today, alleges that Gaetz made substantial payments to women in exchange for sexual favors during his tenure in Congress, among other purported infractions.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the report states, "From 2017 to 2020, Representative Gaetz made tens of thousands of dollars in payments to women that the Committee determined were likely in connection with sexual activity and/or drug use." The report alleges that Gaetz paid over $90,000 to 12 different women, with one of these women potentially being underage. It also suggests that illicit drugs were present at the gatherings where these transactions took place.
CBS News further details the allegations, quoting one woman, referred to as Victim A, who recalled receiving $400 from Gaetz, which she understood to be payment for sex. She stated that she did not inform Gaetz of her underage status, nor did he inquire about her age. While all the women who testified confirmed that their sexual encounters with Gaetz were consensual, one woman expressed concern that the use of drugs at these gatherings may have impaired their ability to fully comprehend the situation or give informed consent. Another woman reflected on her experiences, stating, "When I look back on certain moments, I feel violated."
The leaked report also alleges that Gaetz created a false email account, ostensibly for purchasing marijuana, and violated state laws by engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor.
Gaetz, however, has staunchly denied all allegations of wrongdoing. In a previous statement, Gaetz said, "My 30s were an era of working very hard and playing hard too. Its embarrassing, though not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank and smoked more than I should have earlier in life."
The Gateway Pundit had previously reported that the House Ethics panel had secretly voted to release a potentially damaging report on Gaetz before the end of this Congress. The panel had initially decided not to release the report after Gaetz's resignation from Congress last month, but seemingly reversed their decision in an attempt to tarnish his political career.
In response to these actions, Gaetz has filed a lawsuit to prevent the reports release, alleging that his constitutional rights are being violated. However, given that details from the report have already been leaked to the media, the effectiveness of this lawsuit is questionable.
The release of this report could have significant implications for Gaetz's political future. He has previously expressed interest in running for Marco Rubios vacant senate seat and has also considered a bid for the governorship of Florida. As the political landscape continues to shift, the impact of these allegations on Gaetz's career remains to be seen.
