Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg managed to get a grand jury to indict former President Trump on several charges.
We have yet to see the evidence, but the alleged charges are related to hush money payments that Trump is accused of paying a porn star and former Playboy model before the 2016 election. Everyone has an opinion on the indictment, including Geraldo Rivera.
Rivera doesnt see the arguments made by Bragg as valid. According to the Gateway Pundit, Rivera often the token Democrat on any Fox News panel and an outspoken critic of Trump tweeted after the indictment was first reported that it was judicial overreach and that this sucks.
Many are calling the accusations and indictment overreach. The alleged hush payments to Stormy Daniels have made headlines for weeks. Typically, this type of thing would be a misdemeanor. However, Bragg accuses Trump of using campaign funds to make the payments, which means it allegedly violates campaign finance law. However, campaign finance crimes fall under federal election crimes, and Bragg doesnt have federal jurisdiction.
Rivera quotes law professor Alan Dershowitzs tweet to state further that these accusations are overreach. Gateway Pundit says, Im with Prof Alan Dershowitz right now who just told me, this stretches criminal statutes beyond any plausible constitutional boundaries, he continued.
Dershowitz has not held back when criticizing the indictment. Hes been quick to point out that the case has so many holes in it, its ridiculous. He also points out that the statute of limitations may have already been exceeded. If thats the case, you cant legally charge someone with a crime.
Geraldo Rivera did more than just tweet about the indictment. He also appeared on Fox & Friends to speak out against it. According to Fox, he said, This is a chump change indictment here in New York. Heres Alvin Bragg, a man, a District attorney, who is widely criticized as not enforcing the law and allowing robberies and rapes and carjacking and murders to happen without the office being as intensely engaged as it possibly could be. And instead, he diverts the resources to go after Donald Trump on an eight-year-old incident already passed over by the federal prosecutors and Cy Vance, who preceded Alvin Bragg in the DAs office. They checked this stuff out, and they decided not to go forward. So to go forward on this story, Daniels payoff, I think, to me is low down and dirty local politics.
I have to agree. It is low-down and dirty politics. On top of that, its interesting to look at the charges that Trump is facing. One of them is a conspiracy to promote or prevent an election. Thats when you use unlawful means to promote or prevent someone from getting elected. However, even if Trump did pay Stormy Daniels hush money, which he says he did not, hush money is only illegal in certain circumstances.
Well keep you updated as the chaos unfolds.
