In a recent public address, President Joe Biden dismissed the assertions made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) that the federal government may be manipulating weather conditions.
Greene's claims, which Biden labeled as "beyond ridiculous," have sparked a debate about government transparency and the Weather Modification Act of 1972.
According to Gateway Pundit, Greene's original statement to her 1.2 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) read: Yes, they can control the weather. Its ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it cant be done. This statement has drawn attention to the lesser-known records on federal weather modification projects.
In a virtual briefing about Hurricane Milton, Biden criticized Greene's remarks, stating, Marjorie Taylor Greene, the congresswoman from Georgia, is now saying the federal government is literally controlling the weather. Were controlling the weather. Its beyond ridiculous. He further accused Greene of promoting disinformation, which he believes undermines confidence in federal disaster relief efforts and endangers lives.
Interestingly, a community note added to Rep. Greenes tweet acknowledged that weather manipulation is possible at small scales, such as cloud seeding. However, it also stated that weather patterns in general are naturally occurring and cannot be "controlled". Hurricanes and other large storms cannot be created artificially with modern technology.
Greene, however, did not specifically mention hurricanes in her tweet. Instead, she broadly suggested that scientists have the ability to influence weather patterns. She further stated, Climate change is the new Covid. Ask your government if the weather is manipulated or controlled. Did you ever give permission to them to do it? Are you paying for it? Of course you are..
In her argument, Greene referenced a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) library catalog listing over 1,000 instances of weather modifications. She believes this only scratches the surface of federal weather manipulation activities.
Greene wrote: Everyone keeps asking, who is they? Well some of them are listed on NOAA, as well as most of the ways weather can be modified, because they are required to report it to the Secretary of Commerce by the Weather Modification Act of 1972. The NOAA government website has a library catalog of 1,026 entries of weather modifications, but thats not all of them. If your home or business or property is damaged or a loved one is killed by their weather modifications shouldnt you be eligible for compensation? After all, did they ask you if you agreed to our weather being modified?
The NOAA website explains that companies intending to engage in weather modification activities within the United States are required by the Weather Modification Act of 1976 to provide a report to the Administrator of NOAA at least 10 days prior to undertaking the activity.
Evidence of weather manipulation can be seen in the unprecedented rainfall that struck the United Arab Emirates earlier this year, causing extensive flooding throughout Dubai. The intense weather event delivered a years worth of precipitation in just a few hours, resulting in the flood of major highways, residential areas, and even the tarmac of Dubai International Airport.
GRAZIA Middle East reached out to a meteorology expert from the NCM who confirmed that cloud seeding operations had indeed been carried out in the last 24 hours, with six trips executed from Monday to Tuesday afternoon.
During the Vietnam War, the US Government reportedly used cloud seeding in their secret Operation Popeye to amplify treacherous monsoons in Vietnam and devastate roads with flooding. In July 1972, the U.S. Government renounced the use of climate modification techniques for hostile purposes, even if their development were proved to be feasible in the future.
In 1976, Senator James B. Pearson (R-KS) introduced the National Weather Modification Policy Act of 1976. The bill acknowledged that weather modification technology has significant potential for preventing, diverting, moderating, or ameliorating the adverse effects of weather-related disasters and hazards, and enhancing crop production and the availability of water.
The debate on weather manipulation continues, with Greene's assertions drawing attention to the potential of weather modification and the need for transparency in government activities. As the discussion unfolds, the question remains: to what extent can and should the government control the weather, and what are the implications of such actions for the public?
