In a bid to bolster their appeal to male voters, the Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz have turned to Twitch, a predominantly male social media platform.
This strategic move comes as the Harris-Walz ticket grapples with a perceived disconnect with male voters.
During a recent rally in Arizona, the campaign's Twitch account featured a live audio feed of Walz's speech, complemented by World of Warcraft gameplay by popular Twitch streamer Preheat. As reported by The Post Millennial, Preheat also provided commentary during the broadcast, which reached his over 50,000 subscribers on the platform.
This innovative approach forms part of the Harris campaign's strategy to engage young male voters, a demographic where they have been lagging. A New York Times Sienna Poll from September indicated that young men under 30 are more likely to support Trump than Harris, with approximately 53 percent planning to vote for Trump. Interestingly, the youngest group of male voters, aged 18-24, are identifying as more conservative than liberal, according to a recent poll.
Seth Schuster, a spokesperson for Harris, emphasized the campaign's commitment to reaching these voters. He stated, Our job as the campaign is to break through a historically personalized media landscape, taking the VP and her vision for the future directly to the hardest-to-reach voters and those who will decide this election.
The Harris campaign's Twitch account, launched in August, has already seen some success. Harris's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, streamed on the platform, garnered over 80,000 views, a significant increase from the channel's previous broadcasts. This innovative use of social media underscores the campaign's efforts to connect with a demographic that could potentially sway the election results.
