There is a significant controversy in a Wisconsin elementary school after it was reported that the school decided to ban certain popular songs from being sung at the school.

The school in question is Waukesha-area Heyer Elementary School, and it was first graders who had practiced and intended to sing the Rainbowland song. Some first-graders are disappointed that the song they had worked so hard on is now being cut.
The Los Angeles Times reported that one of the first-graders had come home excited to show her mother the song she had been working on for the school performance. She showed her mom the list, and Rainbowland was among the songs to be performed. The mother is Sarah Schindler, and she said: We love Dolly Parton!. She said that she and her daughter were both extremely excited that she would be performing this song.
However, her daughter came home on a later date with the news that both Rainbowland and Rainbow Connection, a song made famous by the Muppets, had been cut. Some parents asked why these songs had been cut from the list.
Superintendent Jim Sebert said the song could be controversial, so the school decided it was in their best interest to ensure it was cut from the performance list. Many say this songs flip by the board concerns the tie-ins between the LGBTQ+ rights movement and the rainbow flag. It is believed that the school might be looking for a way to avoid upsetting those who believe that they are attempting to promote gay rights.
Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus say that the songs inspiration differs entirely. Cyrus told People Magazine the following about her song:
Its about all these different races and genders and religions. If we all did come together to create and said, Hey, were different, thats awesome, lets not change to be the same, but lets come together anyway. Because a rainbows not a rainbow without all the different colors.
The performers insist that the song brings people together and accepts others. They dont believe it makes sense to ban their song this way.
