In a shocking turn of events, a self-proclaimed killer was granted bail by a judge known for her activist leanings, a mere few hours post his arrest.
The accused, 19-year-old K'Shawn Jimerson, is alleged to have brutally murdered 65-year-old handyman and military veteran, Michael Gray, in Renton, Washington. The incident occurred on Friday, with Gray's lifeless body found in a duplex across the street from his single-story home, where he lived with roommates.
As reported by The Post Millennial, Susan Hassinger of the Renton Police Department revealed that Jimerson himself had dialed 911 to confess his crime. He reportedly told the dispatchers, "he stabbed someone," and would be waiting outside the crime scene, armed with the murder weapon. Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers found "KShawn Konscience Jimerson in front" with "blood on Jimerson, but no knife." Court documents further detailed the gruesome scene, noting blood on Jimerson's jeans, shoes, and feet. Inside the duplex, they discovered Gray, suffering from multiple knife wounds.
Gray, who had been employed by Jimerson's grandmother for handyman tasks, had been stabbed in the back and on his side. The murder weapon, a large butcher knife, was later found in a sink filled with detergent. Surveillance footage obtained by the police depicted a chilling scene, with Jimerson seen chasing Gray and striking him on the back of the head with a large wooden club. After Gray fell to the ground, Jimerson hit him twice more in the head.
Despite the severity of the crime, Judge Michelle Gehlsen set Jimerson's bail at a mere $50,000, disregarding the police's objection to his release. The police had noted on a court form that "Jimerson, who is 19, stabbed a 65-year-old man with a large knife during an argument." Prosecutors had requested a $2 million bail at the court hearing, but despite finding probable cause for second-degree murder, Gehlsen's decision prevailed. Consequently, Jimerson was released just 27 hours after his arrest.
Gray's roommates, in their conversation with Fox 13, remembered him as a kind-hearted individual who was always ready to help. They described him as a tremendous person who used his skills to assist and maintain his extensive network of friends. The shocking release of his alleged murderer raises serious questions about the justice system's approach to such heinous crimes, particularly when the accused shows no remorse for their actions.
