In a shocking turn of events, Oran Routh, the son of the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning on federal charges related to child pornography, as per ABC News.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, a search of Oran Routh's residence in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 21, led to the discovery of "hundreds" of child pornography files. The search was conducted in connection with charges against his father, Ryan Wesley Routh, who is currently detained following his alleged attempt on the life of the former president earlier this month.

Oran Routh is facing charges of receipt and possession of child pornography. The seized material reportedly includes videos of children as young as six being sexually abused.

In the wake of his father's arrest, Oran Routh made a statement expressing his father's disdain for Trump, stating that his father, like "every reasonable person," harbors a deep-seated hatred for the former president. He went on to add that he shares his father's sentiment. Despite his father's extensive criminal history, Oran Routh defended his father's character, describing him as "not a violent person." He dismissed the allegations of an assassination attempt as "crazy" and "nothing like him."

Oran Routh is scheduled to appear in a North Carolina federal court later on Tuesday. Prosecutors are anticipated to argue for his continued detention, as reported by ABC News.

The incident involving Oran's father, Ryan Wesley Routh, occurred on September 15. Ryan allegedly pushed the muzzle of an AK-47 through the perimeter of Trump's West Palm Beach golf course in Florida, with the intent to harm the former president. However, before he could fire a shot, a Secret Service agent spotted Routh's weapon and discharged multiple rounds, prompting Routh to flee the scene. He was subsequently apprehended and charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Further charges are expected to be leveled against the North Carolina native following the recent emergence of letters that suggest Ryan Routh had been planning the assassination attempt for several months prior to his confrontation with the former president. This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threats faced by public figures and the importance of stringent law enforcement.
