In a recent campaign speech in Sparta, Michigan, Senator JD Vance, a Republican from Ohio, rebuked the mainstream media and Democratic lawmakers for their hypocrisy in admonishing former President Donald Trump to temper his political discourse.
This comes in the wake of two assassination attempts on Trump since July. "Don't lecture Donald Trump about softening his rhetoric after two people tried to kill him," Vance declared. "It's ridiculous!"
According to The Post Millennial, Trump's former running mate suggested that the left's own violent rhetoric against Trump was the catalyst for the assassination attempts. This perspective was echoed by Trump himself following the second attempt on his life while golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida. He attributed the threat to his life to the inflammatory words of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. "He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it," Trump stated. "Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country - both from the inside and out."
In response to these incidents, the Trump campaign compiled and released a comprehensive list of quotes from Democratic lawmakers and media hosts that incite violence against the former president. The campaign argues that these quotes "inspired the attempt" on Trump's life. The list includes numerous statements labeling Trump as a "threat to democracy," "dangerous," and someone who needs to be "eliminated." Notably, it features a quote from Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project, who openly called for someone to "go out and put a bullet in Donald Trump."
Adding to the chorus of antagonistic rhetoric, former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton labeled Trump as "dangerous" in an interview conducted a day after the most recent assassination plot. In response to these inflammatory remarks, Vance, during a speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Georgia, cited the list and stated: "I'd say that's pretty strong evidence that the left needs to tone down their rhetoric."
The most recent assassination attempt was carried out by Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old career criminal with a lengthy record, known to the FBI. Routh was apprehended on Sunday after allegedly aiming an AK-47 rifle at Trump from a concealed position in the bushes of his golf course, where he had been hiding for 12 hours. Upon spotting the rifle barrel, an agent from Trump's Secret Service detail fired at Routh, who subsequently fled the scene and was later arrested. The FBI is currently investigating the incident as an assassination attempt.
