Renowned rapper Usher Raymond, better known as Usher, appeared to rebuff Joy Behar's plea for him to publicly support Kamala Harris during Wednesday's episode of The View.
The 45-year-old artist's refusal to dive into political endorsement left Behar and her fellow panelists visibly disappointed.
According to Gateway Pundit, the conversation between Behar and Usher unfolded as follows:
Behar implored, "In this emergency that we are in I think that artists should come out and speak for Kamala against Donald Trump because he is an existential threat to the country. What do you say to that?"
Usher responded, "You know what I dont get too deep into politics, I didnt get the chance to watch the debate last night, I obviously have been watching everybody else. I think voting is an individual choice."
He continued, "I think that, youre right, we have to look at the reality of the country that we are and the country that we want to be and find the candidate that you feel fits the category of what you want to be. And thats it, thats what you vote based off of. Who you highlight and who you choose to highlight with whatever platform that you have is your prerogative."
What makes Usher's refusal to back Harris particularly noteworthy is his history of political activism. In the 2008 presidential race, he was an active supporter of Barack Obama, even incorporating a call to action in one of his songs.
However, the world has undergone significant changes since then, and it's possible that Usher is reassessing what the Democratic Party truly represents. His refusal to endorse Harris could be an indication of this shift, a hopeful sign for those who value traditional values, limited government, and individual freedom.
