In a tragic turn of events, a North Las Vegas man who heroically rushed to the aid of car crash victims succumbed to his injuries hours later.
Grant Fox Sr., 42, was at his apartment complex when he heard the collision outside, according to his fiance, Porche Fitch.
Upon seeing smoke emanating from a vehicle, Fox didn't hesitate to rush to the scene and assist the trapped passengers.
"They need to know who saved them. By getting them out of the car, he lost his life," Fitch told 8 News Now on Sunday. Video footage from the local news station depicted a grisly scene with several white cars smashed together and a gray wall nearly demolished.
"People were trapped inside of the car and then the vehicle started smoking so he put on his shoes, ran downstairs to assist, ripping the seatbelts apart trying to get everybody out because the car was about to blow up," Fitch recounted. As reported by The Independent, Fox, after ensuring everyone was safe, was seen wheezing on the footage.
Fox informed his fiance that he was having difficulty breathing, prompting medical staff on the scene to intervene. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital, according to Fitch. The specifics of the crash, the casualties, and Fox's injuries remain undisclosed and are currently under investigation.
Fitch is still seeking answers and is awaiting news from the coroner's office regarding the cause of her fianc's death. The Independent has reached out to the North Las Vegas Police Department, Mountain View Hospital, and Clark County Coroners Office for additional details.
Robert Fitch, Porche's father, noted that car accidents are a frequent occurrence near Fox's home, and his son was "tired of the constant collisions." He added, "My daughter told me he wasnt even going to go outside, but I guess something told him that he was needed so he jumped up, ran downstairs, and did what he had to do."
The loss of Fox has left a void in Fitch's life, as evidenced by her numerous heartfelt memorial posts on social media. "Just came across this video I had to post it I miss my husband so much," she wrote on Facebook on Saturday. "I hear his voice nonstop remember what I told you remember what I taught you and its not a game."
In the wake of this tragic incident, Fitch last week posted a picture of a candlelit vigil, replete with black balloons and photographs of Fox and family. The community mourns the loss of a man who, in his final moments, displayed an extraordinary act of bravery and selflessness.
