As the upcoming debate looms, Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up to face off against Donald Trump, marking their first, and potentially only, encounter this election season.
Interestingly, she is receiving counsel from the sole individual who has ever been defeated by Trump in a presidential race.
This could be seen as a fortunate turn of events for Trump.
As reported by RedState, The New York Times conducted an interview with Hillary Clinton, who offered some advice to Harris for the impending Tuesday night debate.
When asked about the advice she had for Harris, Clinton responded, "Shes proven to be a good debater, both in her races in California and in her debate with Mike Pence. So I think she needs to be prepared enough that she feels really comfortable going on both offense and defense against Trump, because theres a lot to cover with him."
On the topic of whether she had discussed the debate with Harris, Clinton noted, "He doesnt answer the questions. He doesnt come with any specifics. It appears from the reporting that he is going with a scorched-earth approach and will just try to tear her down, which is his usual go-to strategy."
Clinton further emphasized the need to confront Trump about his "really terrible record as president, the kinds of things he has said that he wants to do next time around, his association with Project 2025."
Clinton's assertion that Harris is a skilled debater is intriguing, considering many viewers of her debate with Mike Pence were left questioning why she appeared so irate. Her aggressive approach contrasted starkly with Pence's calm demeanor.
It's worth noting that Clinton's own debate performances during her 2020 presidential campaign, which were so lackluster that she withdrew before the first primary, offer a more telling insight into her debating prowess than a few statewide races and a vice-presidential debate of little consequence.
Interestingly, Clinton also advised Joe Biden prior to his June debate, after which his performance was so dismal that he was forced to exit the race.
In her op-ed, Clinton described Trump's debating style as starting "with nonsense and then digresses into blather." She also wrote, "Biden is a wise and decent man who is fighting hard for working families. Yes, he's 81. That's just three years older than Mr. Trump."
The Democrats could certainly benefit from more advice from Clinton, who famously overlooked the Rust Belt and blue-collar workers in favor of appealing to younger, progressive voters in heavily Democratic urban areas. The Democratic Party is fortunate to have seasoned figures like the Clintons and Barack Obama to guide them, even as they risk another defeat to Trump.
It remains to be seen whether Vice President Harris will heed Clinton's advice in preparation for the upcoming debate. Given her lack of a noteworthy record, Harris could certainly use all the assistance she can get when squaring off against Trump. One might even feel a twinge of sympathy for her predicament.
