In a shocking revelation, the grandfather of the alleged Georgia school shooter, Colt Gray, has called for the death penalty for the boy's father, blaming him for the horrific incident.
Charles Polhamus, the maternal grandfather of the 14-year-old accused, has pointed the finger at his former son-in-law, Colin Gray, for the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School that claimed the lives of two teenagers and two teachers.
According to The New York Post, Polhamus, 81, expressed his anger and frustration over the role he believes Colin Gray played in the incident. "Spending 11 years with that son of a bitch screaming and hollering every day it can affect anybody," Polhamus said, referring to his 54-year-old ex-son-in-law, who was previously married to his daughter, Marcee.
Polhamus didn't mince words when describing Colin Gray. "He's evil," he stated, adding that the family couldn't survive in such an environment. He firmly believes that Colt was driven by his father to commit the heinous act. "Colt has to pay for what he did, but Im telling you, he was driven, no question in my mind," Polhamus said. "He was driven by his father to do what he did. Thats as plain as I can put it, and I know Im right."
Colin Gray, who allegedly gave his troubled son an AR-15-style rifle for Christmas, the same weapon used in the massacre, has been charged with four counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children for being an accessory in the school shooting. "He needs the death penalty," Polhamus asserted. If convicted, Gray could face up to 180 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Colt, who is charged with four counts of murder, will be tried as an adult. If found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars. Polhamus also pointed out the negative influence of violent content on tablets and the impact of living with a dysfunctional father on Colt. "If you dont think that has an impact on young kids, youre missing the boat, and that was also part of Colts problem," he said.
Polhamus also revealed that Colin Gray squandered the familys finances due to drug addiction, resulting in the loss of their "half-million-dollar farm." His daughter, Marcee Gray, was also drawn into addiction, which led to her losing custody of Colt and their other children. Despite her struggles, Polhamus insisted that Marcee remained dedicated to her children.
Marcee Gray, who has a history of drug and domestic-violence arrests, was reportedly locked out of the house on several occasions by her mother. A former neighbor recounted instances where Colt and his sister were left outside, banging on the back door and crying. By the time of the shooting, Colt was living with his father.
Marcee Gray expressed her devastation over her son's alleged actions. "Its horrible," she said. "Its absolutely horrible." She received a troubling text from her son on the morning of the shooting, reading, "Im sorry mom." Despite her desperate attempt to alert Apalachee High School of an "extreme emergency," it was tragically too late.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of family dysfunction and substance abuse on young minds, and the urgent need for effective intervention and support.
