In a recent development, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that President Joe Biden has no plans to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.
This announcement came during Jean-Pierre's routine afternoon briefing on Thursday.
As reported by The Post Millennial, the press secretary was questioned about whether Hunter Biden's change in plea had any bearing on the President's decision. Jean-Pierre responded with a succinct "no comment" to the initial question, but firmly stated, "Its no, its still no," when probed about the possibility of a presidential pardon for Hunter Biden.
When asked if a commutation might be considered, Jean-Pierre was equally resolute, stating, "That's also no." She refrained from commenting on whether Hunter's legal troubles had any impact on President Biden's decision not to pursue a second term in office.
Hunter Biden, on Thursday, admitted guilt to nine charges of tax evasion in a Los Angeles court, three of which are felonies. Judge Mark Scarsi, according to the Daily Mail, warned Hunter that he could face up to 17 years in prison and over $1 million in fines if convicted on all counts.
Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden's attorney, entered the guilty plea on his client's behalf. Lowell stated that the decision was driven by a desire to spare the Biden family further distress and to put the issue to rest. "Your honor has basically indicated that theres a need to address the public interest," Lowell said. "But Mr. Biden also has to address the private interest. This has been a difficult time for him and his family. Enough is enough."
Initially, Biden's legal team had intended to enter an "Alford plea," which would have allowed Hunter Biden to plead guilty while maintaining his innocence. However, this plan was abandoned following discussions with prosecutors. Hunter Biden has often spoken of his fathers unconditional love as his guiding principle, his North Star.
