A recent report has shed light on the escalating issue of crime in New York City, revealing that a staggering 75 percent of arrests in Midtown Manhattan are of illegal immigrants.
This figure, far exceeding what public officials have previously admitted, indicates that the city's criminal justice system is being overwhelmed by the influx of illegal immigrants involved in criminal activities.
As reported by The Post Millennial, the New York Post has disclosed that the majority of individuals apprehended in Midtown Manhattan for crimes such as assault, robbery, and domestic violence are illegal immigrants. This information was provided by police sources who spoke to the outlet. The situation is further complicated by sanctuary city laws that prevent the New York Police Department (NYPD) from collaborating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or inquiring about the immigration status of offenders.
According to insiders, illegal immigrants residing in shelters have become aware of the city's lenient bail guidelines, knowing they will be released swiftly. Mayor Eric Adams has previously urged the City Council to reconsider these sanctuary city laws. "I would say about 75 percent of the arrests in Midtown Manhattan are migrants, mostly for robberies, assaults, domestic incidents, and selling counterfeit items," one officer disclosed to the outlet. He further explained that this figure is an estimate, as it is impossible to confirm an individual's migrant status unless they are arrested in a shelter or willingly provide a shelter address.
Another officer echoed these sentiments, stating that local arrests involving illegal immigrants are "easily 75 percent." He noted that those arrested for shoplifting often target high-end stores such as Lululemon and Sunglass Hut. Furthermore, he revealed that illegal immigrants are behind "most" of the pickpocketing and phone and chain snatches that the NYPD responds to. The situation is similar in Queens, where over 60 percent of arrests involve illegal immigrants, leading to a significant number of illegal immigrants in New York City courts.
"There are days we have so many migrant cases we have to call in for extra Spanish interpreters," a law enforcement officer at Queens Criminal Court House told The Post. Another officer added, "Come on Mondays! Almost every case is a migrant."
The Post reports that the majority of these crimes involve domestic incidents or petty thefts, but some are linked to gang violence or sexual assaults. The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has established operations in New York City, is implicated in hundreds of crimes, including the shootings of two NYPD officers in June.
The gang has reportedly been smuggling guns into city-run illegal immigrant shelters concealed in food delivery bags. This alarming situation underscores the urgent need for a review of the city's sanctuary laws and a more stringent approach to illegal immigration.
