In a recent development, Ronald Lee Syvrud was apprehended by the Cochise County Sheriffs Office at 2:30 pm local time, as reported by Fox News.
The arrest was executed without any incident, and charges against Syvrud are currently pending. The arrest occurred in the backdrop of former President Donald Trump's visit to the border, where he criticized the Biden-Harris administration's border policies.
According to The Post Millennial, during his visit, Trump was questioned about a manhunt in Cochise County, the same county where he was delivering his address. The former President responded that he was unaware of the situation. "I haven't heard about that. They probably want to keep it from me," Trump said. He expressed his gratitude towards the reporter for bringing the matter to his attention.
Despite acknowledging "mistakes" made during a rally in Butler, PA, where 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate him, Trump expressed his "great respect" for the Secret Service.
He further stated that he was "not that surprised, and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys."
Sheriff Mark Daniels of the Cochise County Sheriffs Office provided details about Syvrud, who had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. These included a DUI in Wisconsin, a hit-and-run in Arizona, and failure to register as a sex offender. Syvrud, a 66-year-old man with white hair, green eyes, and glasses, is 6 feet tall and weighs 220 pounds. His last known address was in Benson.
Sheriff Daniels issued a public safety consideration, stating, "Syvrud is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate." This incident underscores the ongoing threats faced by political figures, even as law enforcement agencies continue their relentless efforts to ensure public safety.
