The Democratic convention is traditionally a platform for the party to showcase its best attributes, hoping to sway voters.
However, the recent convention has raised eyebrows, with its display of radical protesters, dancing abortion pills, free vasectomies, and a series of questionable statements from Joe Biden and other Democrats.
The spectacle was further marred by a group of Democrats who appeared to struggle with the National Anthem, a performance unlikely to resonate positively with the electorate.
According to RedState, the convention was also marked by the puzzling decision to schedule Biden's speech late on Monday night. The former Vice President's delivery was far from inspiring, with his ranting and screaming tone contrasting sharply with the usual joyous atmosphere of such events. This scheduling mishap was not well received by his team, as reported by Matt Margolis of PJ Media.
Axios' Alex Thompson revealed a text from a longtime Biden aide expressing their dismay, "This is awful. He literally set up a campaign and handed it over to themdo they have to cut him out of prime time?" The aide's frustration suggests a perceived slight, and with Kamala Harris now at the helm, the responsibility for this perceived insult falls squarely on her shoulders.
Biden's hasty exit from the convention, without waiting to hear speeches from Barack Obama or Kamala Harris, and his subsequent week-long vacation, speaks volumes about his regard for his fellow Democrats. Margolis highlighted a report suggesting that Obama had warned Biden of a potential 25th Amendment move against him, with Harris' support. This could have further soured Biden's relationship with Harris and the DNC, despite his public endorsement of her.
Despite Biden's claims to the contrary, his history suggests he is not one to take challenges lightly. The recent events at the DNC have certainly posed a significant challenge, leading many to question his assertion that he is not angry.
Peter Hamby of Puck News suggests that there may be a desire for retribution brewing within the Biden camp. "Make no mistake: Biden, and a handful of advisers in his inner circle, are still licking their wounds after the party putsch to get him out of the race," he writes. "They would love to live in a world where Biden was still the nominee, even if things are unquestionably better for the party now, with a tidal wave of post-Biden excitement that has Harris surging in the polls."
Hamby also reports that Biden's communications adviser, Anita Dunn, made a cryptic reference to "getting revenge" during her farewell speech after leaving the White House. Given Harris' reported dislike for Dunn, her departure may have been for the best.
The treatment of Biden at the convention, coupled with his own actions, has left many questioning his legacy. Rather than focusing on his achievements, he chose to center his narrative around Donald Trump. As a result, his legacy may be remembered as a career that imploded so dramatically that he was sidelined, consumed by his animosity towards Trump. Only time will reveal the full impact of these events on Biden's reputation and the Democratic party's fortunes.
