Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has recently lauded the Democratic National Convention (DNC) of this year as the most unified in history.
This assertion comes amidst escalating protests both within and outside the convention's premises.
According to The Post Millennial, Schumer praised Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, stating, Ive not found a convention more focused, excited and more unified. He further added, Everyone is coming together from the most liberal to the most moderate.
However, the convention's unity is being tested by an anticipated crowd of 100,000 pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel protesters in Chicago this week. These protesters aim to express their discontent over the Israel-Hamas conflict. Some of these demonstrations have already escalated to violence, with protesters attempting to dismantle the barriers surrounding the DNC.
On Monday, the convention's fencing was breached by a mob of agitators. They managed to tear down a section of the wall to gain entry, leading to clashes with the police officers on duty.
Monday's protest resulted in at least 13 arrests. Furthermore, bomb threats were reported for at least four hotels. On Tuesday, on the DNC floor, women began shouting, "Stop killing women in Gaza," voicing their opposition to the Israel-Hamas war.
In response to the escalating tensions, protesters were instructed to leave the area. Some political figures have reportedly resorted to using pseudonyms when booking their hotel accommodations to avoid the protesters. The DNC events are scheduled to continue until Thursday, with more protests anticipated.
