In a recent opinion editorial published by The New York Post, authors Andrew Cherkasky and Katie Cherkasky have expressed grave concerns over the future of the U.S. military under the current Biden administration and a potential Harris presidency.
The authors argue that the U.S. military has lost its global dominance and fears that this trend will continue under a Harris administration.
The authors point out that Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, a man who they claim has misrepresented his military career and was slow to activate the National Guard during the unrest following George Floyd's death.
They argue that a Democratic victory would be disastrous for the military, stating, "As tensions flare across the world, we need a commander in chief who'll protect our nation through strength and allow our military to prioritize operational readiness over the leftist social agenda the Biden administration has ushered into the ranks."
The authors further criticize the Biden-Harris administration for the conflicts that have erupted worldwide since they took office. They cite Russia's war in Ukraine, which has resulted in over 80,000 Ukrainian deaths and cost the U.S. more than $175 billion, and the ongoing conflicts involving Israel, Hamas, and Iran. They also mention China's aggressive actions towards Taiwan and other neighboring countries.
The authors contrast this with the Trump administration, which they claim restrained Russia's Vladimir Putin and successfully negotiated a prisoner exchange. They also criticize the Biden-Harris administration for reportedly allowing $3.8 billion worth of U.S. currency to be funneled into Taliban-led Afghanistan since December 2021, following what they describe as Biden's "catastrophic withdrawal."
The authors argue that the U.S. military has been distracted by Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and liberal politics, stating, "During the lead-up to the attack, it was instead focused on DEI and liberal politics." They claim that the Biden-Harris Pentagon boasted about U.S. service members spending nearly 6 million man-hours on "stand-down" days and DEI training since Biden took office.
The authors express concern that the military is facing a recruitment crisis due to the administration's focus on DEI and abandonment of military dominance. They argue that the military now resembles "a grand experiment in wokeism" rather than a formidable fighting force.
The authors also criticize President Biden for declaring global warming as the biggest threat to the nation, rather than China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, terrorists, or the prospect of nuclear war. They argue that Harris's support for the Green New Deal and the goal of a carbon-neutral military by 2050 will further compromise military readiness and fighting capability.
The authors conclude by warning that without a strong military leader to counter the growing threat of World War III, the other roles of the president may not matter much at all. They argue that the current focus on social issues and climate activism is compromising the military's ability to protect the nation and its allies.
