The House Oversight Committee has recently declared an inquiry into vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz, scrutinizing his alleged affiliations with China and his "prolonged associations with Chinese Communist Party entities and officials."
As reported by The Post Millennial, the committee unveiled this investigation through a public statement, "Chairman James Comer has initiated an investigation into Minnesota Governor Timothy Walz, Kamala Harriss newly announced vice-presidential running mate, in light of reports revealing the Governors enduring connections to Chinese Communist Party entities and officials."
The committee's statement further elaborated on Walz's questionable ties, "Mr. Walz has made 30 trips to China, held a fellowship at a Chinese institution that pledges allegiance to the CCP, and has shared a platform with the President of a Chinese organization that the State Department has identified as a CCP initiative to manipulate and co-opt local leaders."
The committee's statement also highlighted the FBI's involvement in the matter. "FBI briefers recently informed the Committee that the Bureaus Foreign Influence Task Force investigates CCP activity that mirrors Chinas engagement with Governor Walz. In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Chairman Comer is now seeking information, documents, and communications related to the CCP-connected entities and officials Governor Walz has interacted and collaborated with."
In his letter to FBI Director Wray, Oversight Committee Chairman Comer insisted that the FBI disclose documents pertaining to Walzs communications with entities or officials in China linked to the CCP.
Chairman Comer identified potential CCP-connected entities and officials for consideration, including Confucius Institutes, the US China Peoples Friendship Association, the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in the United States, among others.
In his letter, Comer revealed that the committee had been conducting a government-wide investigation into the Chinese Communist Partys political warfare operations against America and noted that the FBI briefed the Oversight Committee on April 22 and July 17 about activity related to CCP influence in the US. These briefings were intended to equip Congress for the government-wide investigation.
Comer emphasized that the FBIs Foreign Influence Task Force "investigates precisely the kind of activity that has since emerged about Governor Walz."
