Former Minnesota Governor and professional wrestler, Jesse Ventura, has thrown his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November election.
This endorsement comes shortly after Ventura revealed that he was the second choice for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s running mate.
According to Mediaite, Ventura made his endorsement public during a conversation with CNN's Laura Coates. He explained his decision as a "selfish" one, choosing Harris over his "friend" Kennedy Jr. "I met with Bobby Kennedy last winter. We met for three hours. Apparently, I came in second. He chose his woman [Nicole] Shanahan as running mate. Bobbys still a friend of mine, but Ill tell you where I stand right now. Im going to be selfish," Ventura stated.
Ventura expressed his desire to witness the election of the first female president, drawing parallels to his experience of seeing Barack Obama, the first Black president, get elected. "A few years ago I got the opportunity to see the United States elect its first Black president. I didnt think that could ever happen, and they even reelected him. Well, now Im going to be selfish again. Ive only got a few elections to go. Im 73 years old now, so the window is closing. I want to be alive to see the first woman president of the United States of America," he said.
Ventura's endorsement of Harris also comes with a critique of male leadership, suggesting that women might be better equipped to handle long-term issues such as abortion. "Its time for a woman president. We men have have screwed it up enough," he declared.
Ventura's relationship with Kennedy Jr. appears to have been strained by the latter's choice of running mate. He previously accused Kennedy Jr. of prioritizing "money over votes" by selecting Nicole Shanahan, who Ventura describes as "filthy rich." "He chose money over votes, I guess, because his running mate is filthy rich, and he has got to get ballot access, which is the gorilla in the room," he said.
