In a surprising turn of events, Representative Don Davis of North Carolina, one of the six House Democrats who recently criticized Vice President Kamala Harris' management of the southern border, has now endorsed her presidential campaign.
Davis, who also suggested that North Carolina's Democratic Governor Roy Cooper would make an "excellent" vice-presidential candidate, emphasized the significance of the upcoming presidential election. "The stakes of this presidential election are incredibly high, with far-reaching implications," Davis stated.
According to Fox News, Davis, while endorsing Harris, insisted that the administration must tackle the escalating migrant crisis at the border, a matter of increasing concern for voters. "These issues cannot be overlooked," Davis asserted. "I will continue to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, including securing the border and other issues impacting eastern NC families."
The Republican party has been vocal in their criticism of Harris' approach to the border crisis, particularly at a time when the United States is witnessing record numbers of illegal immigrants. In 2021, President Biden informally designated Harris as the "border czar," entrusting her with the responsibility of addressing the root causes of mass illegal immigration from Central and South America.
In July 2021, Harris unveiled a five-point general strategy aimed at tackling the "root causes" of illegal immigration.
However, the plan, which called for "diplomacy, foreign assistance, public diplomacy, and sanctions" to "establish a fair, orderly, and humane immigration system," lacked specific policies.
This lack of specificity has been a point of contention, further fueling the debate on immigration reform and border security.
The border situation is likely to remain at the forefront of the upcoming presidential election.
