In a shocking turn of events, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has expressed its desire to interrogate former President Donald Trump regarding the assassination attempt he narrowly escaped earlier this month.
The FBI is still in the process of investigating this horrifying incident, which they have always classified as an attempted assassination. This information comes from a U.S. official who has revealed that the agency is yet to receive a victim statement from Trump.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the FBI's director, Christopher Wray, ignited a controversy when he testified to lawmakers on Capitol Hill that there are still 'some questions' about whether the former president was hit by a bullet or shrapnel. This statement was made in an attempt to clarify his previous remarks. However, Trump was swift to reject the idea that he was hit by shrapnel, insisting that he was struck by 'a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard.'
"There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a 'bullet wound to the ear,' and that is what it was. No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!," Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. This sentiment was echoed by Trump's campaign, which vehemently dismissed the suggestion that Trump was hit by shrapnel rather than a bullet.
"Anyone who believes this conspiracy bullsh*t is either mentally deficient or willfully peddling falsehoods for political reasons," Trump campaign adviser Steven Cheung told CNN.
During the congressional hearing with Wray, the director responded to questions about the 'assassin's bullet' saying, "My understanding is that either it or some shrapnel is what, you know, grazed his ear." Wray also testified that whatever struck Trump came perilously close to ending the life of the 45th president.
The congressional hearing also unveiled a series of shocking revelations about the activities of 20-year-old shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks immediately before he opened fire. Wray revealed that Crooks had searched online 'how far' Lee Harvey Oswald was from John F. Kennedy when he shot him.
Wray also disclosed that the young gunman had flown a drone 200 yards from the stage just two hours before he opened fire in Butler, Pennsylvania, and had three explosives in his car. These startling revelations provide further insight into Crooks' meticulous preparation before he targeted the former president, including his online research on the sniper who assassinated JFK in 1963.
Wray stated that Crooks had shown an interest in public figures and had become particularly focused on former President Trump and his rally around July 6. An analysis of Crooks' laptop revealed that he had searched on Google 'how far away was Oswald from Kennedy' on the same day he registered to attend the Butler rally.
Wray also revealed that Crooks had flown a drone above the rally site two hours before the shooting, approximately 200 yards away from the stage. The FBI has also recovered three 'explosive devices' in Crooks' possession, which Wray described as 'relatively crude devices' but capable of being detonated remotely.
The weapon used in the assassination attempt had a 'collapsible stock,' which, according to Wray, 'could explain why it might've been less easy for people to observe.' Wray was unable to confirm whether Crooks had carried the gun up to the roof with him before he fired the shots or had stashed it there beforehand. He did, however, reveal that Crooks did not use a ladder to get onto the roof but some sort of 'vertical piping.'
The FBI director also disclosed that Crooks and his family owned a total of 14 guns and that Crooks had visited a shooting range a day before the rally. The weapon used in the assassination attempt was an AR-style weapon legally purchased by his father and sold to him in October 2023.
The FBI's investigation into the assassination attempt is still ongoing. Congress has also voted to establish a task force to investigate the shooting, with Speaker Mike Johnson indicating that it would be a bipartisan effort split evenly between Republicans and Democrats. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is also conducting an investigation into the shooting.
