Renowned actor Jon Voight, known for his conservative political views, has publicly expressed his disapproval of his daughter Angelina Jolie's political stance, particularly her support for Palestine.
The father-daughter duo, despite having mended their once-strained relationship, find themselves at odds over political ideologies.
According to Page Six, Voight, in a recent interview with Variety, criticized Jolie's political leanings, attributing her support for Palestine to exposure to antisemitic propaganda. "She has been exposed to propaganda," Voight stated. "Shes been influenced by antisemitic people.
Voight, an ardent supporter of Israel, also pointed out that his daughter's former role as a Special Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has influenced her perspective. "Angie has a connection to the U.N., and shes enjoyed speaking out for refugees, he said. But these people are not refugees.
Voight, known for his right-wing political opinions, suggested that Jolie, like many in Hollywood, is misinformed about the realities of the world. He argued that Hollywood is a bubble, detached from the real world, and its inhabitants are often ill-informed about global issues.
The actor, who himself resides in Beverly Hills and works in Hollywood, shifted the blame to the United Nations. Voight expressed his concern for his daughter, stating, I love my daughter. I dont want to fight with my daughter, but he believes she has been negatively influenced by the U.N. He criticized the organization for its stance on human rights, which he perceives as anti-Israel.
Voight repeatedly criticized his daughter's "ignorance" during the interview, comparing it to a political candidate attacking an opponent. However, a source close to Jolie told Variety that she wishes her father well and refrains from speaking about him publicly.
This isn't the first instance of Voight publicly criticizing his daughter's political beliefs. In November 2023, he expressed his disappointment after Jolie voiced her support for Palestine and accused Israel of deliberately bombing Gaza. Voight responded with a call for the Israeli army to protect their land and people, suggesting that the situation had escalated beyond the point of civility.
Despite their divergent political beliefs, Voight and Jolie have been working on their relationship for the past 15 years. Their relationship was tumultuous from Jolie's early years, worsened by her parents' divorce when she was a toddler. However, the death of Jolie's mother in 2007 marked a turning point in their relationship.
Voight, despite his disagreements with his daughter, expressed his deep love for her. "I love my daughter thats No. 1. I am happy when Angie is happy, Voight told Variety. When shes having a tough time, Im having a tough time. When she is down, Im down. This emotional statement underscores the complexity of their relationship, a blend of familial love and political discord.
