Whoopi Goldberg, a renowned television personality, has stepped up to shield Vice President Kamala Harris from the barrage of criticism she's been receiving as she embarks on her quest for the Democratic presidential nomination.
In a recent episode of The View, Goldberg took a firm stand against conservative figures, including Rep. Tim Burchett, who have labeled Harris as a mere "DEI hire."
Goldberg initiated the discussion by informing viewers that Republicans have been escalating their critique of Harris, questioning her suitability for the role. She then played a clip of Burchett's interview with CNN, in which he described Harris as "mediocre" and "100% ... a DEI hire."
In the video, Burchett is heard saying, "First off, [Joe Biden] says he's gonna hire a Black female for Vice President. He just skipped over what about, what about white females? What about any other group?" This was reported by The Decider.
Goldberg, however, was quick to counter Burchett's assertions, stating emphatically, "[Biden] never said that. He said that he was thinking about a woman. He never said her color, he never said anything."
In fact, President Biden had announced in early 2020 that he intended to choose a female vice presidential candidate to join his ticket, but he did not specify any racial or other criteria. According to Politico, he stated during a primary debate, "There are a number of women who would be qualified to be president."
During the episode, Goldberg criticized Republicans for distorting the truth, remarking, "If you're going to attack people, try to do it in a factual manner. I know that is almost insane for you to think about, but a fact really does make a difference. People won't attack you if you're accurate. They'll say you're wrong, but you're beyond wrong."
Goldberg continued, "You're trying to send a little message about the fact that she's a woman of color. We all see it. We know what you're doing. Stop it."
When fellow host Joy Behar asked, "Why are these white men so scared?" Goldberg responded, "Because Black women and women of color freak people out! I don't know why!"
