Cedric Richmond, co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign, has firmly refuted speculations that President Joe Biden is contemplating stepping down from the 2024 presidential race.
This comes amid rumors of influential Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, expressing doubts about Biden's political viability.
According to Gateway Pundit, there are allegations that Schumer and Jeffries are orchestrating a behind-the-scenes campaign to undermine Biden. This conjecture is seemingly supported by reports that Schumer and Jeffries have successfully convinced the Democrat National Committee (DNC) to postpone its presidential nomination vote. The DNC announced on Wednesday that their virtual roll call vote would not take place before August, a move that some interpret as leaving the door open for a potential coup.
Newsmax TV reporter Mark Halperin further stirred the pot by suggesting that Biden might announce his withdrawal from the nomination as early as this weekend, most likely on Sunday. Contrary to expectations, Biden is not predicted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, nor does he intend to resign from the presidency. Halperin hinted at an open convention featuring Harris and approximately three other candidates, with potential running mates for Harris including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
However, in an interview with MSNBC, Richmond categorically denied these claims. Responding to questions about reports from the New York Times and other outlets suggesting Biden's potential withdrawal from the Democratic ticket, Richmond stated, "The New York Times reporting is absolutely wrong, and it's been consistently wrong. The President has said that he is running, and it's the end of story. He was just out here in Nevada talking to the NAACP, and he is running his campaign along with the Vice President."
Richmond further emphasized that Biden remains dedicated to his campaign and is confident in his ability to defeat Donald Trump. He said, "President Biden is the head of the party. He talks to the leadership all the time, and what they express to him, I'm sure it will remain between them because they don't talk about what they talk about in private and discuss it publicly. But what I will say is that the President has said over and over again that he is the best person to beat Donald Trump."
Richmond also highlighted the stark contrast between Biden's values and character and those of Trump, who he described as a self-centered individual with a history of dishonesty, impeachment, and criminal convictions. He concluded, "If we talk about that, the poll numbers will change and we'll move in the right direction. But the President's not going anywhere. The President can win, and so we should just go campaign on the issues because we're right on the issue."
