Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has recently expressed his admiration for Donald Trump's resilience and leadership, following an assassination attempt on the latter.
Johnson and Trump were photographed together at the Republican National Convention (RNC), where Johnson commended Trump's 'top form' despite the recent life-threatening incident.
According to the Daily Mail, Johnson and Trump held a meeting on the sidelines of the RNC, where they discussed the situation in Ukraine. Johnson was confident that Trump would provide the 'strong and decisive leadership necessary to protect democracy against aggression.' The former Prime Minister was part of a panel discussion on UK and US elections, alongside Kellyanne Conway, a former adviser to the White House.
Liz Truss, the disgraced former Prime Minister, was also present at the event but did not appear to have a meeting with Trump. She expressed her support for Trump's nomination, stating that he embodies the 'leadership the West needs.' Johnson and Trump's conversation lasted approximately half an hour.
Following their meeting, Johnson took to social media to share a photograph of him and Trump, who was seen with a bandaged right ear, giving a thumbs-up sign. Johnson praised Trump's courage and resilience in the face of adversity, stating, 'It was great to see President Trump, who is on superb form following the appalling attempt on his life. I noted the courage, resilience and sheer indomitability with which he has responded.'
The panel discussion, which included Johnson and Conway, was attended by a few dozen people. Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK and recently elected Clacton MP, is also expected to attend the convention. Farage is set to travel to the US after the King's Speech in Parliament.
The RNC, now in its second day, has officially nominated Trump as its presidential candidate, with US Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate. Trump made his first public appearance since the assassination attempt at the convention, entering the arena with a bandaged ear, a stark reminder of the recent attempt on his life.
Trump's appearance at the convention was marked by a show of defiance and strength. Despite being injured, he rallied the crowd, raising his fist in the air and mouthing 'Fight!' to the audience. His actions were met with cheers and applause, a testament to his unwavering spirit and determination.
In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Trump shared his thoughts on the assassination attempt, stating, 'The energy coming from the people there in that moment, they just stood there. It's hard to describe what that felt like, but I knew the world was looking, I knew that history would judge this and I knew I had to let them know we are OK.'
Trump's team announced that he will address a campaign rally this upcoming Saturday afternoon, just a week after the attack. This will be the first opportunity for Trump and his vice-presidential pick to present their campaign message in person. The rally, given the events of the previous week, will be under intense scrutiny, particularly regarding the level of security.
Trump's resilience and determination, as demonstrated by his response to the assassination attempt and his subsequent public appearances, have earned him admiration and support from key figures such as Boris Johnson. His leadership qualities and commitment to protecting democracy, as evidenced by his discussions with Johnson, further solidify his position as a strong contender in the upcoming elections.
