In an unexpected turn of events, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.

) has voiced his opinion on the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump, stating that it will not influence President Biden's prospects of securing the Democratic nomination.

During an interview on NBC News' "Meet the Press," Sanders was asked by host Kristen Welker whether the incident would affect the ongoing debate about Biden's fitness for office. Sanders responded, "No, I dont. I think President Biden is the strongest candidate the Democrats have."

According to The Hill, Sanders was initially scheduled to appear on the program to discuss his New York Times op-ed. In the piece, he urged Democrats to cease their calls for Biden to withdraw from the race and to put an end to what he termed a "circular firing squad." The senator expressed strong disapproval of the assassination attempt, which occurred at a Trump campaign rally on Saturday evening in Pennsylvania.

During the interview, Welker reminded Sanders of a 2017 incident where a volunteer from his campaign shot Republican Rep. Steve Scalise (La.) at a baseball practice. To this, Sanders responded, "What democracy is about, is not radical rhetoric. What it is about is a serious discussion of where we are as a nation and how we go forward." He added, "Politics should be kind of boring, you know?"

Late Saturday, President Biden also condemned the violent incident at the Trump rally. He stated, "Look, theres no place in America for this kind of violence. Its sick. Its sick."
