In a shocking turn of events, former President Donald Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The incident occurred as Trump was delivering his speech, resulting in a minor injury to his ear. The sight of the former president, blood streaming down his face, raising his fist in defiance as the Secret Service moved to secure him, has sent shockwaves across the nation.
According to the Daily Caller, the incident was followed by a comedy show hosted by Bill Maher, who despite his political differences with Trump, condemned the act of violence. "I so unequivocally denounced. I dont care what you think about that," Maher stated, adding, "Not funny." The comedian expressed his disapproval of those who might make light of the situation due to their disdain for Trump, asserting, "Im sure that there will be jokes that people will make because they hate him so much about they wished it went, you know, the way not from me. Not from me."
The alleged shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, has been accused by Maher of causing significant harm to the Left. The comedian argued that the Democrats have "lost a lot of moral high ground" in the wake of this act of political violence. "You know, liberals dont shoot people. Liberals dont solve it that way," Maher admonished.
Despite their ideological differences, Maher expressed relief that Trump was unharmed. He humorously referred to Trump as "the luckiest motherfucker that has ever walked the face of the Earth," citing his 2016 election victory despite losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton. Clinton has yet to make a public statement about the incident.
Maher's show took a satirical turn as he commented on Trump's resilience and the reaction of his supporters. "Yes, MAGA nation finally has its full martyr," he quipped. "They loved it when he went to jail. The mugshot. I gotta say, hes insane and hes a criminal, but that mugshot? Fucking nailed it. Perfect."
The mugshot in question was released in August 2023 by the Fulton County Sheriffs Office in relation to Trump's Georgia 2020 election interference case. The case has been delayed due to complications arising from an alleged affair involving Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her special counsel appointee, Nathan Wade, who has since resigned.
Maher also took a jab at those suggesting the assassination attempt was staged, labeling them as "idiots" and "conspiracy theorists." He further mocked the situation by saying, "He gets grazed and the other guy gets shot? Its so Trump," and added, "I can see the memes now! The man the lib-tards couldnt kill. Biden cant get through a debate and a bullet cant stop Donald Trump!"
In the aftermath of the incident, Maher suggested that the Democrats' choice of candidate might be inconsequential. He had previously criticized President Joe Biden's performance and urged the Democrats to replace him.
