In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across the nation, Victor Manuel Gomez-Acosta, a Mexican national, has been charged with the brutal stabbing of three individuals, two of whom were children who tragically succumbed to their injuries.

The accused, who is currently in the United States unlawfully, was confirmed by federal authorities to Fox News Digital on Friday.

According to Fox News, Gomez-Acosta was apprehended in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, and is facing charges of two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree homicide, and operating under the influence. The Colby-Abbotsford Police Department reported that two children were discovered at the scene with fatal stab wounds. An adult woman, also a victim of the stabbing, received medical attention. Gomez-Acosta was found within the premises, bearing self-inflicted stab wounds, and was subsequently taken into custody.

WQOW, citing the criminal complaint, identified the victims as Gomez-Acosta's wife and daughters. The children were found in their bedroom, having been stabbed 16 and 20 times respectively. The wife reportedly suffered approximately 17 stab wounds, one of which severed her vocal cords.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Gomez-Acosta is in the country illegally. Following his arrest on July 9, ICE placed a detainer on him, a request that he be transferred to ICE for deportation upon release from custody.

Gomez-Acosta initially entered the U.S. legally in September 2016 through the port of entry in Laredo, Texas. However, he failed to comply with the stipulated departure date outlined in his entry conditions, thereby violating immigration laws.

This incident comes on the heels of the Republican National Convention, scheduled to take place in Milwaukee. The issues of illegal immigration and border security are expected to be at the forefront of discussions, reflecting the concerns of voters ahead of the November election.

Republicans have pointed fingers at the Biden administration, accusing it of exacerbating the ongoing border crisis, which has seen record numbers over the past three years. They attribute this crisis to policies such as the narrowing of ICE enforcement and the rollback of Trump-era policies like wall construction and the Remain-in-Mexico policy.

"Time and time again, we have seen the tragic consequences of Joe Bidens border crisis; yet, the president refuses to reverse course," Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Wis., told Fox News Digital. "No town is immune, even our towns up north in Wisconsin are feeling the horrific impact."

In response, the Biden administration has argued that it is grappling with a hemisphere-wide crisis that requires funding and reforms from Congress to rectify what it labels a "broken" immigration system. It has highlighted efforts made in lieu of congressional action, including a recent executive order that has limited entries and resulted in a short-term reduction of 40%. It also stated that a majority of all southern encounters during the past three fiscal years have led to removal, return, or expulsion.
