In the wake of a widely criticized debate performance by President Biden last month, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the President.
Despite acknowledging that Biden may not be as sharp as he once was, Fetterman's loyalty remains unshaken.
As reported by Fox News, Fetterman shared his views on "Jesse Watters Primetime," stating, "I really don't think I've seen anything that makes me want to change that." He continued, "I'm not following him blindly, but I do fundamentally believe he's been a great president and I do believe ultimately he can prevail."
In response to calls from within his own party to step aside for the 2024 race, President Biden has remained steadfast. He communicated to House Democrats in a letter that he is the most capable candidate to defeat former President Trump in the upcoming November election.
The Associated Press has reported that since Biden's less than stellar performance at the CNN Presidential Debate in Atlanta, ten Democrats, including nine House Democrats and one Democratic senator, have urged him to withdraw from the 2024 race.
Fetterman, who confessed to only watching portions of the Biden-Trump debate, conceded that the President had a "bad night." However, based on his experiences with Biden at various events across Pennsylvania over the past year, Fetterman described the President as "normal" and "engaged."
"He was actually very popular, and people were eager to have a selfie and those kinds of thing[s]. So, I really want to remind everybody that Joe Biden has done a really good job as President, and I fundamentally am going to remain loyal to that," Fetterman asserted.
The former mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, dismissed the significance of debates and called for an end to discussions about Biden stepping down. "Joe Biden is going to be our guy, and it's going to be rough, and it's uncertain, but it's going to be very close as well, too," he told Watters.
Fetterman concluded by emphasizing his unwavering loyalty to Biden, stating, "I refuse to turn our back on a great President and I know people watching this might disagree that he hasn't been a great president, but I do believe he was. And I think loyalty is really one of the last... It's one of the last currencies in this lousy business."
