In a tragic incident in Baldwin County, Alabama, a Honduran illegal immigrant, Zelvin Gomez, was arrested following a car crash that critically injured his girlfriend's six-year-old daughter.

The 25-year-old Gomez, who had overstayed in the United States after his asylum application was rejected, was charged with driving under the influence and first-degree assault. He is currently being held on a $150,000 bond. At the time of the accident, Gomez's blood alcohol level was found to be three times the legal limit. A detainer has been issued against him, ensuring his eventual handover to immigration authorities.

As reported by The Post Millennial, the unfortunate event unfolded around 3am on County Road 28 in Summerdale. Gomez was driving with his girlfriend, their pet dog, and her daughter. Following a heated argument, Gomez's girlfriend and their dog exited the vehicle. Gomez and the little girl continued their journey, which ended in a horrific crash. Gomez lost control of the vehicle, crashed through a fence, and flipped the car, resulting in the child being ejected and subsequently pinned under the car.

Upon his arrest, investigators discovered that Gomez's blood alcohol level was .22, nearly three times the legal limit. Furthermore, he was speeding at 68mph in a 45mph zone when the accident occurred. First responders were able to rescue the girl, who was airlifted to a hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The incident underscores the need for stringent immigration laws and the dangers of drunk driving. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed a hold on Gomez, which will be executed once the legal proceedings are concluded. The fate of the young girl serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of illegal immigration and irresponsible behavior.
