Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of "The View," expressed her unwavering support for President Joe Biden on Monday, stating that she would continue to back him unless he demonstrated an inability to perform his presidential duties.
Goldberg's comments came in response to Biden's recent interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, where he expressed reluctance to undergo a cognitive test, asserting that his daily presidential duties serve as an adequate cognitive assessment.
According to the Daily Caller, Goldberg stated, "I dont care if hes pooped his pants. I dont care if he cant put a sentence together. Show me he cant do the job, and then Ill say, okay, maybe its time to go.'" She further emphasized that Biden would need to falter significantly in a second debate with former President Donald Trump or show a clear inability to "do the job" for her support to wane.
Goldberg recalled Biden's initial debate with Kamala Harris, where he faced criticism for his approach and was urged to withdraw from the race. Despite the backlash, Biden bounced back, stating, "you know what? I got it," and served four years in office. Goldberg likened this resilience to her own experiences, saying, "I have poopy days all the time, all the time. I step in so much poo you cant even imagine."
She further explained her stance, stating, "Now Im not running the world, but I dont know anybody who doesnt step in stuff at some point." She reiterated her loyalty to Biden, saying she would stand by him as long as he was doing his job, even if she didn't agree with all his actions. However, she also made it clear that if Biden failed to perform in a second debate, she would join those calling for his removal.
Goldberg also drew parallels between the calls for Biden's withdrawal and the Colorado Supreme Court's 4-3 decision to remove Trump from the state's 2024 election ballot over the 14th Amendments Section 3 "insurrectionist" clause in December. This decision was later overturned by the United States Supreme Court in a unanimous 9-0 ruling in March, which stated that Trump could not be removed from the state's presidential ballot.
Goldberg questioned the logic behind these attempts to remove Biden from the ballot, stating, "Well, I dont understand why anybody thinks its going to be any easier to take Biden off the ballot." Her comments underscore the ongoing political tension and the challenges faced by those in power, as they strive to maintain their positions amidst a sea of criticism and opposition.
