In a recent development, two inmates, Tyrekennel Collins, 24, and Dezarrious Johnson, 18, who had managed to escape from the Claiborne County Detention Center in Mississippi, were apprehended on Saturday.
The duo, both awaiting trial for murder, were discovered in an abandoned house in Claiborne County, following an intensive manhunt, according to Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods.
As reported by Fox News, the pair had made their escape from the detention center the previous day. The surveillance footage revealed Collins and Johnson making their way out through the ceiling and subsequently exiting via an external wall around 2:20 a.m., as per Sheriff Goods' statement. Johnson, who sustained a right leg injury during the daring escape, was observed to be limping significantly.
The public was promptly alerted about the escape, with the authorities warning that both suspects were to be considered dangerous. The two escapees are facing murder charges in separate incidents. Collins is accused of murdering his cousin in Copiah County in October 2023, while Johnson is charged with murder and aggravated assault in Jefferson County, related to an incident that occurred in October 2022, as per WJTV-TV.
Johnson was scheduled to stand trial on October 15. Following their recapture, both Collins and Johnson are now additionally charged with escape, Sheriff Goods confirmed. This incident underscores the need for stringent security measures in detention facilities to prevent such escapes and ensure public safety.
