The recent CNN debate between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden was the focal point of the latest episode of Real Time.
The show's host, Bill Maher, made a bold call for Biden to step down from the presidential race following what he deemed a catastrophic performance.
According to The Decider, Maher reinforced his stance on Biden's potential reelection bid. "I have said before, I will vote for his head in a jar of blue liquid. After last night, time to get the jar," Maher humorously remarked during his panel discussion. He reiterated to his audience that he has been voicing this sentiment for months. However, he now believes it is "absolutely apparent" that Biden is on track to lose and should be replaced on the Democratic ticket, which he sees as the "only way" for Democrats to secure a victory in the election.
Maher cited a flash poll conducted after the debate, which indicated a significant win for Trump. "The flash poll after, Trump, they said, won 67 to 33," Maher noted. "33, that number rings in my mind. Because you know what that number is? Thats the number you always see very close- 33, 34, 32 of the people who are just always with their party. I mean, this is Mrs. Goebbels in the bunker number You see it on the right. They used to call them birthers, Tea Party, whatever MAGA nation, they never move. And now I feel like thats a third of the Democrats who are, like, theyre gonna stick with this guy and they are going to regret it.
Maher continued to express his conviction that Biden is destined to lose. He had made this prediction nine months ago and reiterated it in the wake of the debate. He then played a clip from the debate where Biden claimed that his administration had "finally beat Medicare." Maher compared this moment to a knockout punch from Mike Tyson. "It reminded me of when Mike Tyson used to knock guys out in 90 seconds. Like that was like two minutes into the debate and I went like Oh, this election is over. That was like a haymaker, Maher stated.
The HBO host further argued that the main reason for Biden's candidacy has always been his perceived ability to defeat Trump. However, Maher now believes the situation has reversed. "I think hes the only guy who could lose to him, he said. He expressed his frustration with Democrats who continue to defend Biden, saying, "What about me? I feel abandoned. I have nobody to vote for.
Despite Maher's critique, several high-ranking Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, continue to support Biden. Obama released a statement on Friday, saying, Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know, Obama said. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didnt change that, and its why so much is at stake in November.
However, some liberal media outlets, including The New York Times editorial board, have started to call for Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race. The Times editorial board wrote on Friday, Mr. Biden has been an admirable president. Under his leadership, the nation has prospered and begun to address a range of long-term challenges, and the wounds ripped open by Mr. Trump have begun to heal. But the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election.
