Former President Donald Trump has taken a swipe at HBO host Bill Maher, branding him as "highly overrated" and declaring his late-night talk show as defunct.
Trump's critique was delivered via a post on Truth Social, where he lambasted Maher's show for its "Fake, Loud and Obnoxious laughter" and accused the host of suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, or TDS. This sharp rebuke from Trump, as reported by The Decider, came just hours after Maher's show featured former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and former Representative Adam Kinzinger.
The two guests joined Maher on his show, Real Time, to discuss the criminal charges against Trump and the potential implications of a second Trump term. Both Cuomo and Maher expressed the view that the hush money case against Trump in New York should not have proceeded, arguing that it politicized the justice system and ultimately benefited Trump's campaign.
However, Maher diverged from this consensus, suggesting that Trump should have faced trial for a different charge. "If they had just heard the one about trying to overthrow the government of the United States. Thats the main thing! He tried to overthrow the government of the United States! And were never going to hear that," Maher asserted on Friday evening.
Cuomo, in response to Maher's statement, commended Kinzinger for his role in the investigation of the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. Kinzinger, during his last term in Congress, served on the House Select Committee tasked with investigating the incident.
Following the episode, Trump advised Republicans to distance themselves from Maher and his show. "Republicans should stop using him as a reference point, his show is dead!" Trump declared.
Earlier this year, Maher pledged to do everything within his power to thwart Trump's potential victory in the 2024 election. The late-night host, known for his criticism of both political parties, has previously expressed views such as "the left has changed" and that their "ideas are stupid." He also predicted earlier this month that President Biden was "going to f???ing lose" the upcoming presidential election, paving the way for a Trump triumph.
