Fox News has reported that a Somali-American legal immigrant is furious after hearing about a proposal by politicians in Minnesota that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain drivers licenses.
The particular immigrant in question is Army combat veteran Shukri Abdirahman, and she served the United States in the Iraq War. She came to America to flee the Socialist dictatorship of her home country. Abdirahman even ran a campaign for the Congressional seat held by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in 2022. She was unsuccessful in that bid but continues to make her voice heard on the issues.
She spoke with Todd Piro about the drivers licenses issued on Thursday and said: Absolutely outrageous, and I can no longer recognize what country Im in because I came here legally. I came here back when our country had laws and rules. I waited in the slums of Kenya for three years to [be] vetted medically and criminally. And, After we got here, I waited five years to prove myself that I was going to be someone worthy, and whos going to be worthy of citizenship.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, D., signed the bill allowing all drivers licenses on Tuesday. This bill enables even illegal immigrants in Minnesota to obtain a drivers license if they choose to do so. Fox News reports that this new law will reverse a policy in place for more than two decades that did not allow illegal immigrants to obtain a drivers license if they choose to do so. The procedure became law after September 11 over public security concerns, but Governor Walz appears ready to throw that all out the window.
Those in favor of this change say it will improve public safety because those who obtain a drivers license must take a drivers safety course to get it. However, opponents say this is nothing more than an electoral ploy by Democrats in the state. Abdirahman said: We have opened the borders all this time, and We have successfully flooded millions and millions of future Democratic voters. What do we do then to make them look like theyre legal? So lets give them a drivers license where you have to be a citizen or at least have documents showing that you are a legal citizen, to begin with.
The new policy takes effect on October 1.
